Mathieu Dutemps
I was born in 1994 in Nice. Drawing has always been a means of expression for me, but I rediscovered my passion for black and white drawing in 2020. Creating what you want from a blank sheet of paper with tools as simple and precise as graphite pencils fascinates me and seems to me a privilege. I evolved as a self-taught artist, observing the work of other artists, until I found my techniques and my preferred material. Art, beauty, the human condition or luxury are themes that inspire me. I am particularly fond of photorealistic portraiture at the moment, which I find to be a wonderful means of expression. There is a multitude of elements on a face, expressions and details that also allow for excellent technical challenges. I always proceed in the same way. I take a photo or choose an existing one that matches my inspiration, on which I make a proportional grid for the main shapes. I then study the photo visually before starting to draw with an ever increasing demand. I am not necessarily looking for the most detail possible, but rather for a nice aesthetic balance.
